I should have much pleasure in reporting to Sir Rutherford Alcock. I have the honour to forward a copy of this letter.

To this I received a reply, dated the 28th of September, in which the Governor of Hong Kong expresses gratification at the receipt of the Viceroy's expression of regret, and referring to the question of compensation to Col. Sec. See letter dated 23 Sep 1868.

il Secretary A-Robertson 15 Sep 1868 to Col. Sec.

M. Robertson to Col. Secretary, 2 Dec 1878.

Mr. May, in absence, M. Robertson to Col. Secretary, 5 May as 12 Dec 1878.

Enclosed is a copy of the correspondence on this subject.

On the 16th of October, I reported the settlement to Sir Rutherford Alcock (copy of despatch enclosed but have not yet received his reply). I hope the conclusion arrived...
